    Among other news…

There is this British inventor who has invented an app that filters out Kardashian news…

It is called Kardblock. The program is currently in beta testing and was created by California-based social media firm Chameleon.la and James Shamsi. That is simply brilliant given the penetration level of the “Trashian’ news.
The men behind this brilliant app believe that this app will make Internet  a better place for everyone.

In Queensland Australia lives Beryl the pet. She loves to sit with the family members and watch TV. Sometimes she plonks near the couch in the living room. She loves playing ball and every other game her humans love to play with her. She also goes with her family on family holidays.

And, Although Beryl thinks she is a dog, she actually is a cow!

Her antics are breaking the Internet. Move over Trashians…here comes Beryl!

    beryl the cow

She is 52 and is still known as ‘The Body’. Supermodel Elle Macpherson  has obviously always stuck to a healthy diet. She said breakfast on an ‘ideal food day’ includes fruit, chia seed pudding, oatmeal, or an egg on spelt toast, followed by espresso and almond cookies.

Lunch is fish and vegetables, and for a snack, she’ll make a protein shake or lemonade with cayenne pepper, fruit, and almonds. For dinner, she eats a plant-based protein salad with goat cheese or fish, followed by a bit of dark chocolate for dessert.

She also drinks three liters of water spaced through the day.elle

But despite a diet nearly devoid of fat and complex carbs, the Aussie stunner didn’t feel her best.

‘Ultimately, I’ve learned that an alkaline body and pH-neutral body is a healthier body,’ she explained. ‘Many people believe that it combats disease, encourages cellular renewal and therefore is anti-aging.’

Elle wanted to bring this knowledge to other people, too, so she started her company, WelleCo, and launched its signature item: the Super Elixir, a vitamin and mineral-packed supplement that she herself takes every day.elixir

‘I feel that my body thrives now that I am taking the Super Elixir every day; my workouts are strong, I’ve lost weight around my waist, and my moods are balanced, I don’t have sugar cravings and I just feel on top of my game,’ she said. ‘In fact, now if I leave home without my green drink in the morning, I turn and go back – my body actually craves it.’

Among other news, Barack and Michelle Obama met Prince George who was in his pajamas and almost in his bed when his mother thought that putting his sleep off for a few minutes will not do him any major harm especially since the Obamas were already outside their residence, the Kensington Palace. So George shook hands with the Obamas and then went to sleep.

So much that is interesting! I believe Elle Macpherson is capable of finding commercial opportunities in almost anything, but an elixir of youth? Perhaps it is addictive. Perhaps it will be discovered to have narcotic effects. Perhaps you could be prosecuted for driving under the influence of it? Personally I believe Elle Macpherson is a cyborg….

    Oh what a pickle!!!!

gujju foodTosses come in different forms.

    And through unexpected quarters.

This happened a while ago while I was in college.

Our Gujarati neighbor loved our fetish to their dishes and would lavish us with their home-made goodies.

If one day was Puri with typical Gujarai bhaji, next day would be fluffy khaman dhokla with the best mint and date chutney to die for. And then their paav bhaji…oh it was a beautiful drool world that I lived in.

My beautiful, loving caring, late mom though didn’t share much of my thoughts or feelings. She was against adding  a pinch of sugar to even out the tastes. So you can imagine…..!

For the uninitiated, Gujaratis are from the lovely Western Indian state of Gujarat who love an excess sprinkling of sugar in their cuisine. Not just in their desserts….

So one day they came to our house, as usual with containers laden with good food. This time around they also brought a bottle of pickled mangoes.

Later, after a sumptuous meal, when we were chatting, my mom came into the room smiling.

    pickle 2pickle

I was thinking: This smile doesn’t come out on occasion like this, especially after eating a Gujarati meal.

She said: “Thank you so much for the wonderful food. I really loved that jam. How do you make it?”

After a few seconds of utter and terrible silence, the lady who had been beaming a proud smile till then said in a glum tone:

“That jam is actually our pickle.”

The cute little city called Pisa

As our train dragged to a halt in the noisy station of Pisa Centrale, we noticed the colourful pot pourri of people swarming the place. It was so noticeable…

The station and the waiting areas were small but the cars that pose as taxis are the latest models swanky European, well, Italian models. We were two families and so we took two cabs that wound through streets that looked fascinating with cobblestone roads and ancient and modern buildings jostling for space.

In a street that looked like million others, was our obscure hotel that looked like it was an old tiny house. But this one grew vertically and the lift was another wonderful modern architecture. It was kind of, well, skewed.

The rooms were tiny with capital T and the view was…er…. less said the better. But does it really matter, we asked ourselves. We are not going to be there the bulk of the time.

    So, we were cool!

After arranging our bags and luggage tucked neatly in the available nooks, corners and shelves, we showered and changed quickly and walked to the Tower. Yes, the Leaning Tower. We had made an online booking and had to be there on time.

    pp1

The evening July sun was reluctant in leaving and there was a joyous swathe of yellow rays that was covering all of those that were waiting in the lush lawns surrounding the Bell Tower.

The steps that go around inside the tower are off the centre, due to the lean and you do feel that you are shifting to one side when you are climbing up and coming down. That was just fascinating. A feel of high at no cost or implications!

From the first level, upto which the visitors are allowed we could see the beautiful cityscape of Pisa and in the yellow glow of the setting sun and distant church bells, it looked so ethereal.

    p3.jpg

The allotted time for visitors that are  sent up in batches is 30 to 40 minutes and that is ample enough time to soak up the beauty. After you come down, the well manicured lawns and avenues flanking the tower provide a different feast for your eyes and senses. The variety of restaurants and cafes nearby offer a taste of fine wine and Italian food. The place bustles with tourists and visitors till late into the night.

One word of caution when you shop for the mementos- be ready to be thrown off your balance with the smart answers from the shopkeepers.  The shops are manned by, yes, Indian and Bangladeshi youth. There was this beautiful porcelain Tower of Pisa on sale in one of the tiny shops that was selling knickknacks . Everything was fine except that it was not a leaning tower. We told our ire to the Bangladeshi shop keeper.

“Does it look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa?”, he asked.

“Yes, it does”, we told him. The architectural uniqueness was unmistakable.

“You know this tower is leaning?” it was a question to us, pointing at the majestic Bell Tower that was towering over the place.

    “Yes, we know”.

“So you just imagine that this tower, (the memento)  is leaning too….”

    Smart!

    When Jonas hit NY

    23 Jan 2016

It started at almost 12 Midnight. Jonas! The slow drizzle of snowflakes accumulated into quite a bulk by next day morning. Modified sledges were about to make their entry into the 8th avenue. Oh and they did….

By now the NYPD vehicles were

everywhere. The snow clearing trucks making their rounds in quick succession only to find snow filling the roads faster than they cleared it! Snow flakes fall beautifully and poetically down and even as they caress your skin they leave a lovely feeling. But to see the ny roads that were so dry and noisy turn into swathes of snow with not much of vehicles was indeed strange. The New Yorkers though were undeterred. We saw them enjoying the snow and ice with a gay abandon!!!! Love New York. The amazing city for all seasons and reasons. #timessquare #newyork #nypd #centralpark

It is a sad world that you live in….

Only something like an UFO invasion or another 9/11 will erase the memory of MH 370 out of our minds. While the vast majority point fingers of this aircraft proving to be a collateral damage to avoid a greater damage to the world, nothing is as yet proven.

God forbid, but a collateral damage of this extent perhaps is unthinkable for a modern society. But look at all the terrorism infested places and the videos that are triumphantly posted, boasting newer and incredibly nastier methods of torture techniques. Isn’t anyone thinking of lives lived like death and how to rescue the humanity?A solution with a collateral damage to contain the situation anyone?

Sad moments like this continue to pop out from time to time. Like the live telecast of of the unexpected killing of local TV anchors of WDBJ TV in Moneta ,Virginia. An ex-employee of the TV channel, an Afro-American, who was known to be a trouble-maker, was the man who went trigger-happy with his gun. He killed the anchor and the cameraman while they were on their morning segment news coverage. Later when he was chased by the police, he killed himself.

Whatever it is,  incidents such as this leave you in a state of limbo – helpless and completely direction less…but only for a while…then life goes on…it has to….

    Today’s thoughts!

!People change. They change because their priorities change.

I have thought about it many times, about the ways people change…

They change because they want to impress people…

or they want to bring in some conscious change in their life for the better…

Some change because they have been asked to change, by their spouse, girl friend or their children…

Some change because they want a sustained society acceptance….aha…this is where I bang my head against a solid wall….

society accepts you as you are….remember, you are an unknown when you first interacted with them. If they have accepted you as are, you don’t change for a sustained acceptance. Get it?

Faking on a long-term basis draws every bit of energy and at the end, you can no longer do it. What? with hearing aid, bald patches (more for women these days than men), forgotten phony accent that suddenly comes in as a sliver of memory (and making an ass of you, sorry) and the nasal twang which sounded stylish for the phony accent then, which has given way to creaky voice…

Well, I recently bumped into someone, who opened my thoughts gallery….

Whelping time and after – not an easy job 😳

Tanya, my five year old pet shih tzu moved slowly towards the bedroom and hid under the cot. She was pregnant and was just a day shy of her due date. As per my vet, the dogs, when they are about to deliver will move towards a quite place. I could see was doing that and had to check if she had crowned.

She had. I called my friend who had attended to whelping successfully.  He came and took a look and said Tanya will deliver in half an hour but she needed help. Putting on the gloves he he eased the crowning process. In fifteen minutes the first pup came out. Girl! 😀 she looked like a rat.

Then came the boy. Two rat-looking pups 😃Tanya didnt cry or even moan slightly.

She was always such a well behaved grand lady. The placenta came out last which Tanya didn’t want to even sniff. The newborns snuggled close to their mother and the mandatory lick from Tanya to her pups were not coming. We were worried but not for long.

They bonded so beautifully well and it was a great sight to see the pups growing, playing together with their proud mom looking at them.

    Operation Theatre Blues

    So here I was.

At the OT Dispatch Area, where I was waiting for my turn in the stretcher. (OT – Operation Theatre)

The area looked clinical, scrubbed, smelt of various medicines/tonics/insulin (now that I know how Insulin smells like) and Dettol.

The Anesthetist came in and told the nurses to take me in.

    Gosh!

The Operation Theatre looked scarier than Emily Rose’s Exorcism. They should have doped me before getting in here! Damn!

Before I could think of creating a drama and jump off the stretcher, my doctor came and read my mind.

“Thinking of running away.” and gestured the Anesthetist. Her words ‘calm down, don’t worry . Everything will be okay, faded as if in dreams.’

I wanted to tell her this:

“Since you are drilling my abdomen, can you please get a liposuction machine and pump out some fat as well.”

But no((( didn’t get a chance for that.

And then, when I woke up after three hours, I was in a different place that smelt just the same, and looked less scary. Husband was sitting intently staring at me, waiting for me to open my eyes.

He looked relieved and asked the nurse, when I would be taken to the room. I guessed he wanted to know when he could get away from that place.

I could see the legs, but couldnt feel it. Epidural…

But slowly, everything returned to normal.

    Amen!

Kim is David Cameron’s cousin????? You gotta to be joking….

    No bro…
    It is true.
    David himself has said it.
It seems, the Prime Minister  and his celebrity cousin, who shot to fame after starring in a leaked sex tape, are linked by their mutual ancestor, Sir William Spencer, born in 1555, according to genealogy website geni.com. (Pic and news, thanks to Daily Mail.)kim and david

That should be enough to kill off any remaining election chances the Shiny Man had. Now if we could trace the line back to Attila the Hun….
